Ever since its first diver’s watch in 1965, Seiko has developed new technologies, features,
and designs that have made its diver’s watches favorites among professional divers and
adventurers the world over.
In 1968, just three years after Seiko’s first diver’s watch was made, the brand’s engineers
raised the bar by creating a high-beat diver’s watch with 300 meters of water resistance,
laying one of the foundation stones on which future Seiko diver’s watch development
would be based. It featured a high-precision 10-beat automatic movement, a one-piece
case construction, a screw-down crown, and a unidirectional rotating bezel.
The 1968 watch struck a chord with successive generations of sports watch enthusiasts
thanks to its robust design and high functionality.
High legibility for professional use
The high-contrast design, with its precisely controlled color and texture of the dial and
indexes, boasts outstanding legibility.
Designs rooted in heritage
The case has a beautiful, distortion-free mirror surface, as inherited from the original
design of 1968. The unique case shape is firmly established as one of today’s signature
Seiko diver’s watch designs.
Outstanding grip and easy maintenance
The knurled shape the rotating bezel and crown have been improved for a better grip.
To ensure the watch's durability, the crown is not screwed directly into the case but
locked into a separate component that is built into the case so it can be more easily
replaced.
Bright, long-lasting Lumibrite
The watch is fitted with a high-transparency, dual-curved sapphire crystal with
an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface to enhance legibility. High-intensity
Lumibrite applied to the indexes and hands helps to increase safety and reduce
stress when diving.
